Very inefficient: almost half of the used energy is converted to heat by the resistor.

 I normally use a LM317 regulator as nikisalli suggests, but if you have a suitable zener diode then that could be a good alternative. I like the Robert_Kidd circuit that he has presented here: http://everycircuit.com/circuit/6737708736577536   See how much  power is used in your circuit compared to his 12.7x(1.76A cp 547mA). Your circuit uses a Voltage Divider which may be fine here, but consider the resistor values as described in my previous reply here. Dividers can work, but the resistors need to be carefully thoughtout, since any change may well alter the desired Volts.
