O capacitor limita uma corrente de 20mA para o circuito que ilumina o led. O segundo diodo serve para que a corrente não queime o led quando a tensão se inverter. O resistor serve para descarregar o circuito quando ele for removido da tomada, fazendo, assim, com que não exista risco de choque elétrico.
