You have a serious issue with this circuit. You're sending about 3 or 400 milliamps through a zener diode. 99% of zener diodes use 20 milliamps or less. Unless you're using some kind of large strange industrial zener diode for some reason. You'll smoke any diode that you put in there. Try increasing the zener resistor to a couple hundred ohms to get your current down to about 10 milliamps then just use a pass transistor as a voltage source you'll get much better results.
