The Gray code is used in sensing instrumentation such as resolvers and encoders to avoid error due To multiple commutation of bits. In the Gray code the transition occur for a single bit at once.

Neatly done. :) Another use for Gray code is in testing procedure, because you only have to change one thing at a time to go through all the combinations. I've been meaning to use it that way in EveryCircuit, but haven't been doing much digital work lately.
