DIY turbo button mod for game controllers. You don't need to use the transistor..and after 2 hz you will probably get banned if you use it in game

The first transistor (closest to the momentary switch) acts as a simple input buffer for the 555's trigger. Is it needed? Maybe not- but I've put it in place with the circuit's longevity in mind. The other transistor inverts the 555's output, holding the outbound signal to the game controller low until the button is pressed. Is this necessary? That depends- test the voltage on one of the controller's other buttons to find out. If the button is pressed and the signal to the system goes high, then yes the transistor is needed. If you find that the signal goes low, then the output transistor may be omitted from the circuit..

Haha good call faceblast! This circuit would help out a ton with that game. Some other greats might be: Space Invaders, Galaga, Asteroids, 1942, Zaxxon, Shinobi...

What SkeLe probably mean is 133hz is a bit to fast.

I believe I set this up to operate at 30Hz- is it not? Even still, I realize that might too fast. An adjustment if the RC network would take care of that- what do you think a good spotted might be?..

Its again the same old problem "undersampling" what you see is not what you get. The frequency depends on simspeef and this is a strong indication your simspeed is to fast! Go down to 10ms/s and see a nice 130Hz rectangle. I m not a gamer, but i dont expect PCs or a game console does poll the fire button with more then 100 times a second. Or the game might even crash because of to many USB events?

Hmm, ok hurz thanks- I think I see what you're saying although I'm still trying to get my mind around sampling rates, time stepping, etc.. As it is now, I flubbed the clock calculation by a factor of ten- I meant to set it at 33.3mHz. But that was just an educated guess to see the real frequency (which I just double checked the math) of 30Hz (more accurately 28.0155Hz). I should build a real one to test but I'm absent an o-scope..

But you don't use the std 555 formulas for the frequency, right? The resistors calculate different cuz of your 5.6kOhm in parallel.

Roughly the formula is f = 1/(2x5.6kOhm x 1uF x ln(2)) this is because 5.6 is dominating in case of charge and in case of discharge its a little larger than 2.2k the exact formula is another .... But its an ok aproximation ;)

The formula I used is F = (R1 + 2R2) ยท C1. But Q1's Rc screws that up doesn't it? I didn't intend for this circuit to operate at 100+Hz- I'll have to redesign it...

Just remove it and finetune the 555 to 30Hz again. One hint, the upper resistor i prefer to have it much smaller than the lower one to get a more 1:1 pulse shape.
