Lucan01 there are several apps that calc the resistors for the 555 timer too change time and flash rates try the electrodroid companion app to ec. Ec will not always show things like real, i grabbed a 555, few resistors, caps and a breadboard to see it for my self.

Some opamps can be used to boost current for small signal device. In this design I use it to drop (buffer) the current on the 555 & keep the frequency stable. Thanks for asking.

555 are very stable device but can very with heat and voltage, using a buffer you can control the current which controls the heat & variance of voltage due to heat.

The 555 support a max output current of 200mA an opamp usually only 50mA (unless you use an high power version). Why not using a transistor?

The transistors are handling the heavy load if you follow the schematic design, first power than 555 than opamp than small signal pnp than large signal npn.

The reality of the circuit in a real car the turn signal and a resistor will be all that is used for powering operations. when working on a breadboard or building from circuit board up other things have to be considered.
