Simple level shifting - e.g. 5V and 3.3V

Simple bidirectional way to interface two devices - represented here by two switches - of different voltages using an N-channel FET. The left side is 3.3V, and the right side is 5V - try pushing the buttons and watch the voltage reflect the same logical value (low or high), but with voltage shifted to the appropriate level on the other side of the FET.

Note: input / output states are pulled high, so toggling the button pulls them low. This works well for I2C.
