This circuit is designed for MCUs and low power components. You will need to tweak this according to your own peak current needs. This circuit is simple and consists of only 5 components and delivers about 5mA at 5V and draws about 1.3W from the main power. However, it draws the 1.3W even in idle. For a more efficient and powerful MCU mains power supply circuit, look at my other design. Ps: The load must be always on or on at high duty cycle, or the zener blows. THIS CIRCUIT IS VERY DANGEROUS IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING. AVOID IT, THEN LESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING.

You start this all over again, but the main issue its a very dangerous circuit is still present. You need a transformer for a galvanic separation, anyway, 5mA at 5V is just enough to power a single LED. How to power a running MCU, and not making this version more dangerous?
