CMOS invertor are used now a days in computer, mobiles and all other devices for fast switching at low voltages. It uses a PMOS and a NMOS transistor, PMOS is always used as pull-up and NMOS as pull-down.

When your cmos inverter is blue at zero volts your pmos bar needs to be fully open so that current can flow to the LED.....yours does that, but the settings of that pmos need adjusting so that there is 9v showing on both sides of it (no wasted volt drop across that pmos which would waste power as heat). At the moment there is about7 out of the 9 volts being dropped across your pmos.

You also need a resistor in line with your LED to keep the current through it just below 20mA. The nmos with no voltage should now at this time be fully closed with no bar seen so that no current is flowing through it ideally. Now when the cmos switch inverts to pink giving 5v to the gates, the pmos bar should completely disappear so that no current flows through it, and your nmos bar shoud be fully seen with no volts difference across the LED and resistor....zero volts both sides there.
