This is simple pulse detector using the red led(640mm) and LDR but in circuit I'm using the potentiometer....you can adjust the resistor to see the effect...The  sensor use Rayleigh Scattering:
x=(4*pi*r)/lambda

Note: The  node between LED and Tx 2 can be connected to arduino for signal processing

This circuit should not be built in real life! 3A through the LED 500mA through the PNP base i think not.
