This is a 5V 1.5A linear regulator made up of discrete components. The output voltage is set to 5V (it has a dropout of ~4V) and has a current limit of 1.5A. The line and load regulation Cannot be calculated due to the poor resolution of the scope. For detailed explanation, look at my previous circuit: http://everycircuit.com/circuit/6305068551503872

Really useful. Nice

Could you not make it shut down, not using supply power. Maybe a latch.!? Sort of thing!? Rrseting after the removal of short, !?

It's possible, but it's an inconvenient feature for a regulator. I'll try anyways.

But what do you mean by not using the power supply?

Sorry badly worded. .. Meant the current limit, do more than just limit, .. But trips off the o/p, so the supoly (i/p) power is a minimum,,, ( ideally switched off.). So it does not see the over load.

Have you heard of fall back, (current?!)

You mean foldback?

I was designing that latching overcurrent protection.

I'll try to design a foldback fault protection later.

But there isn't a big difference between a foldback design and a latch-off overcurrent protection. In a foldback design, the output current is limited to a very low value. In a latch-off design, the current goes to zero.

Thats right,,,,, latch type just shut down,, two types resetable, or not, and switch supply off/on is required... The othe say if the o/p current limit is 12 Ampers resched then it derops to say 2 Ampers,,,, this might not hold if short circuit occurs,,,,
