LM13700 is a nice toy. For simulation I like to use a reduced version. The current mirrors can be simplified and the darlington stage not always need, and when probably only one BJT with high beta is ok. It anyway only needed to transform current into voltage which might already work with just a resistor if the next stage is high enough in impedance.
