Set the time base to 1 second, that is real time and if the circuit works there, it will probably work in the real world. Then the base current is almost as much as the emitter current, for a start make the resistor ratio the same as the transistor gain, ie 100k to 1k, the capacitor is too small, start with 1uF, restart the SIM after each component change to ensure it is still working , once the circuit is working start adjusting the component values to achieve the desired results. http://everycircuit.com/circuit/5748156354789376

The LEDs act like diodes (because they are) and they play a very important role in the circuit

Yes zf121 leds definitely can help stabilize a circuit, after they are inserted, monitor the led current, it will be noticed that the current is only10mA, the circuit should be tweaked a little, the leds need a bit more current, so let's reduce the resistor to 510 Ohms. It will be noticed that while the current spikes to 20mA, it falls back to 10. There is still a requirement for a resistor ratio of about 100 to 1 so reduce the base resistor to 51k, finally to have a nice viewable pulse, adjust the capacitor to about 6.8uF. http://everycircuit.com/circuit/4905029578522624
