Simple drill. I have very little experience, so I just experimented until it worked. 
If anyone could tell me how to make this variable speed that would be amazing

Hook up a variable resistor to the positive. Connect the middle of the variable resistor to the motor. Leave the end of the variable resistor/ potentiometer unconnected

Then adjust the wiper of the potentiometer

Ahhhhh, a series resistor!!!! A simple but In efficient method of speed control.

The voltage will burn your potensiometer,if u have projk about variabel speed of dc motor just use npn transistor..
