S- Video is video with color ( chrominance ) and brightness ( luminance ) on separate wires in the cable. Composite Video ( like yellow connector on TV RCA type connector ) mixes the two video signals together with the red and white audio channels,
So , if DVD on computer has S - Video out and old TV has RCA connection you can get video into TV. You can work out what plays audio.
