can be used a bit like how a zener would (except not inverted) tolerates a higher amperage capacity than the average zener but is less precise a neat trick regardless tho (especially useful with diodes with a high VF like microwave diodes at 9v)

do keep in mind, the more amperage goes thru the diode, the higher the voltage fall and thus, the higher the regulated voltage is.
