A párhuzamos kapcsolású ellenállások áramerősségei fordítottan arányosak a megfelelő ellenállásokkal.

Tehát:
mivel I1*R1=I2*R2,
ezért I1/I2=R2/R1

A csomóponti törvény szerint I=I1+I2
Ebből I2-t kifejezve és behelyettesítve az előző összefüggésbe:
I1/(I-I1)=E2/R1

Ebből I1=R2/(R1+R2)*I

Ha az I1 áramerősséget fejezzük ki a csomóponti törvényből, akkor

I2=R2/(R1+R2)*I

amiből megkapjuk az áramosztó I2 kimeneti áramát.
