3 Phase AC is used in the US mainly for industrial applications and heavy loads.

A good thing about 3 Phase AC is that you don't require a ground connection back to the source since the 3 phases cancel each other out therefore acting as a ground and being 0V.

Yes, but better you do not comnect 120V bulb phase to phase cuz the voltage is 120 × sqrt(3) = 208V !

3 phase is used in the whole world for most loads over 5 - 10 kW range.
