Basic Inductor circuit

This circuits describes the basic functionof an inductor. When the switch is closed voltage is applied and current begins to flow. An increasing voltage applied to the coil creates an expanding magbetic field which generates a back EMF. The inductor tries to resist changes in voltage / current. When the switch is opened the magnetic field collapses and induces a forward EMF which keeps the current flowing through the LED and the forward biased diode. Cheers
