I'll share a couple hard luck cases from my "Circuits Without a Home" file. First we have case# 502. This poor little fella used to dream big- he wanted to help those hot-shot processors in complex calculations, and one day become a star in the professional bull riding arena. But that's not likely to happen- you see, he's just two RTL NOR gates configured to function as an ordinary OR, so there's no real reason for him to ever be built.
