Hit the button,  it toggles from red to violet. It has three flip-flops and when it gets to the end, it resets itself by an AND gate of the end and the button pulse. Hit the button as many times as you want.

Very impressive. Could you change the 5V DC line to a square wave and have it auto-shift on the rising edge? I did not try but see no reason why it wouldn't work. Thanks for sharing.

Actually just tried it, works perfectly. Sub the 5V line for a square wave, sit back and enjoy the show.
