Can anyone explain what I'm doing wrong? Current only seems to sync. It never switches to source mode.

Check your layout. You seem to have many incorrect connections

You should connect pin 5 or pin 3 to a capacitor and then to ground, then there are many other problem with your schematic. Check them.

As stated above, there is many wiring issues with your circuit, along with the time base, some of the components are not the best choice. See the attached circuit for a guide. http://everycircuit.com/circuit/6350208006094848

Ok. I got how it works now. I see voltage divider over resistors. Trigger and threshold monitoring timing capacitor and discharge for cycle changes to drain capacitor. I don't understand why having control ave ground tied together messes everything up unless it goes through the capacitor.

Footnote... For some reason, my solo keeps freezing up when i go to start the timer causing me to have to restart.

To see the circuit run smoothly adjust the time base for 20 ms.
