I wouldn't say nothing. Its some form of an attenuator but I do agree that it wastes power without anything useful in return. Like pumping power through a resistor. Yeah it produces heat but its so damn wasteful and practically the onlt thing it does is waste power by dissipating it. I strayed off topic a lil'. Sorry for that.

Ye an attenuator especially when u get in the shop an opamp with gain equal of 50uV/V from one volt of input u have 50 micro volt of output lol as so far a one to one is unbreakable barrier that no one wat to cross because for what reason cross it at all
