This is the circuit of the Attack-Release Envelope Generator of the Noise Toaster MFOS by Ray Wilson, the rate of the attack and release are controlled by the two pots next to diodes; push up the button and then release it to generate the envelope. The SPDT switch is manual, change to the right to repeat the envelope.

The SPDT switch appears to kill the circuit when pressed. Also the Noise Toaster runs off a single 9v battery but you have 2 x 4.5v. I removed your second battery and connected the emitter directly to earth (ie replace second battery with a wire) and set the primary battery to 9v and all seems fine now.
