This is cool. It’d be neat build this and include micro usb power to operate a small tft display and speakers. Much like the “power boost 1000” from Adafruit. Thanks for sharing!

Built a similar one from 555ic , used p55 logic mosfet and 7805 regulator. Operates at 6volt.

Zener can dissipate max 250ma though it may get hot.So typical current value upto 200ma

It would be better to create a feedback to the base of the transistor, to make it less dissipative...
