This does not work in real

I tryed to get a LED (on 3 - 3.2 V) on. The resistor (ca.10 kOm , 025W) started to smoke. I switched the circuit off. I know, that it is not smart to do such tests at home without a person, who takes care of and knows enough. Please do not try to built this circuit if you have no knowledge to do it! Some respond? I also glad to be answered in german

Your resistor cannot handle the power generated by the current. You have peak curent of around 20mA which gives 4 watts at the AC peak which definitely exceeded your 1/4W rating

Use multiple 100k resistors or just use a 5w power resistor

sure it does not work! 230V mains is 325Vpeak and not 230Vpeak its if not written different 230Vrms the peak value you get by multiply with sqrt(2) which is 1.414 the resistor power dissipation will ne around 2.5Watt if 10kOhm. You underestimate the power drop for such a little LED. Forget the LED threshold voltage, cuz you handel 325Vpeak. 0.02A ² * 10kOhm = 4Watt you just take half the wave current so its about 2Watt your resistor needs to be bigger then this ! 0.25 or 1/4Watt is much to small. Thats why there are capacitive dropper in this power class. Anway, as long you do not know why its 325V you better dont touch such kind of circuits.

BTW, LEDs do not like reverse voltages above 5V, at least you will not find a specified one above 5V.
