A multiphase DC-DC converter has two or more inductor-mosfet-diode legs that are operated in an interleaved fashion. This helps distribute the current over multiple paths, thus reducing the current stress of each device. 

Because the legs are operated in an interleaved fasion, in input ripple current frequency and output ripple voltage frequency increase, which helps reduce the required input and output capacitance. In addition to this, the input peak-to-peak ripple current reduces.
