Mains AC stepped down, then rectified, then ~12VDC feeds a 555 timer, which pulses a MOSFET, which blinks a LED. Terribly useful.

After about 10 cycles it quits unless the zener is removed. Not sure why unless the cap or zener values need different values.

I noticed that too. The app seems to get all wonky the second you slap a transformer in the circuit. Especially if you are generating the AC by switching DC.
