You are almost there, play with the biasing and loads, here is a circuit that I did a while ago, check the differences especially when you adjust the base resistor, the load resistor and the led voltage/current specifications. http://everycircuit.com/circuit/5489344255361024

Usually around 50khz instead of .8hz. Why so?

Because of the 10H primary. Normally you would get something like 10-100uH cool inductance.

Why what? Higher inductance means lower frequency in thompson's law.
