Help please

I am trying to get the 7-segment display to run as a counter, once the switch is pressed. Anyone able to help a newbie out please?

Are you trying to use the 555 to generate the signal to trigger the counter? If so, try setting it to use astable mode

@x35m95 I am simply just trying to master pin outs etc of commom components. In this circuit I was trying to use a binary to 7-segment decoder to a counter / 555 timer. I figred i would need both, the counter to memorize as so to speak, the timers progress?

Maybe a little heavy for a mobile app though what'd you guys think?
