it's got different voltages *and* different resistances, making it difficult to gauge which is making a difference. a general problems with this technique is that it requires sources with low output impedance, able to source and sink current depending on what the outher sources outputs are. sometimes this is acceptable, but an inverting summing opamp doesn't have this problem.
