Note that the current flowing through the bottom three circuits is the same, because the short exists. First circuit: This is the original circuit Second circuit: This is with the books definition of a short, with an ideal voltage source of 0V Third circuit: This is with a wire as a short circuit Fourth circuit: Showing the equivalent circuit as the second and third

There is no actual short in any of these circuits.

There is. Right side resistor is being shorted

Term "short circuit" does not apply only to voltage/current sources, rather to any component that has been shorted, i.e. "ommited" from the circuit by means of shorting it's leads to cause the current not to flow through the component.
