Why don't you just use an AND gate?

There are many reasons, and there are many ways to make logic gates, with many different components. For example, I often have lots of BJTs and diodes lying around. I don't usually keep much, if any, logic ICs on my shelves. So it comes in handy to know how to make my own logic gates. I used an SR Latch I made just the other day. It also goes a long way to understand how the component actually works.

@Andrew-There has to be a way to make the "AND" Gate, it's inside of the AND Gate.

With the and gate component there are 2 inputs and 1 output. I'm trying to learn how these gates work, is there any way for you to mark the inputs and outputs with lamps?

Mosrtly to show, but otherwise as Kurtz wrote

The inputs are the switches. The output is marked in blue (the anode side of the diodes).
