Strange Mixing Circuit

This mixer circuit was found inside the SANSUI DA-T500 and I don’t understand how it works. How can there be a voltage across the primary of the transformer if the collectors are either floating or grounded when the transistors turn on and off? Where is the current through the transformer coming from? I assume that the transistors are conducting a current from the base to the collector but that seems wrong and unhealthy for the transistors.
