So I can get the led to blink with 555. Now if I wanted to let’s say add 8 led’s and make them flip flop 4 on and 4 off and so on. How would I do that I am very new to all this thanks for any help

I got it to work. First I increased the 1kohm resistor to around 20kohm. That causes the leds to have a longer off time

Then I connected the 4 leds from the 5V source through a current limiting resistor of around 150ohm to the output connection of the 555timer.

The idea is that when the 555timer output a logic high or 5V, the first 4 leds will go on. When the timer output a logic low or 0V, the other 4 leds will go on because the timer will sink the current from the 5V source through the leds.
