ok I'm feeling kind of mentally challenged here, how the heck is this working and working in real life on my pen sized cold heat soldering "pen" that I made Transistor current boost for 5v cold heat soldering iron

Follow-up. The bulb represents the completed circuit when the two graphite rods touch a conductive material (solder etc)

Looks to me like it uses a joule thief and you may have just wired it wrong in translation to this workspace, do you know how a joule thief works? If so I won't go into explanation, if not, I suggest a quick search and maybe then your circuit shall be fixed ;)
