It's a slap easy switch. It could still be complicated but simplicity was the goal.

Right, in general EC doesn't like caoacitors, {specially large ones} and causes crash.... Perhaps it ought to be mentioned in the circuit description as to ehy capacitors were omitted...simplicity is the only way complicated ideas work...

I wouldn’t call it stable. With 1.5 A load the voltage drop is more than 1V.
