Why does this not work. Ive never managed to get a transformer to work.

You must first understand the fundamental principle of a transformer: it works with AC. So if you want to transform voltage, you need to supply AC. And LEDs work with DC, so you need to either replace it with a lamp or rectify the output.

Apply current source in the left hand side of the wavelength then increase the ma. That should work

And to run the led you need to clip or transform to direct currant on the secondary side.

The LED would still run on AC but you have to take care of the reverse breakdown voltage as well; it's flicker would barely be visible.
