Notice the led's voltage on the negative cycle. Way more than its rated reverse breakdown voltage.

EC doesn't seem to show led reverse break down, so some basic design allowance needs to be applied.

Yes. Where is the smoke?

The meter view may give a false impression of events. The volt drop across the LED only reaches about 2v (339 - 337 and so illuminates correctly) with a reverse of about -10mV http://everycircuit.com/circuit/5318922173153280

@2cent, or you have to google what the word "breakdown" is meaning.

I know Hurz, but the meter view explanation may have given the impression of a full - 339 v being applied due to breakdown and that is not happening.

You just prove you still dont now what breakdown is. Cuz rich is expecting a lower voltage than 339V in case of breakdown, and this is correct expectation. And you expect a high voltage due to breakdown which is not correct. Keep up guessing and messing!
