I was messing around with making a Collpitts oscillator and making variations on the basic design when this happened.

Its, surprise, a ringing harmonic LC oscillator. Ringing appears only if triggered by energy at ringing frequency. What you see is the delta of two resonances. This is what happens in 99.9% of circuits published on EC were Ls and Cs are used. Cuz it looks so cool
