Vary the input voltage ( base voltage) more than 1   and 0 then transistor will act as a switch. Also see that varying the base voltage in mili volt result in change in out put voltage in volts...

Measure output voltage across load. Change in out put voltage i.e magnification is appx 10 times the change in base voltage.
