This is a basic regulator it works reasonably well. The zener diode voltages are not working well on EC at the moment, just choose a value that will allow you the correct output. The second regulator allows the output to be adjusted as required.

@hurz, I did say basic, as per http://www.circuitstoday.com/voltage-regulators, we could talk about precision, but that would be a different story.

Nice circuit. ....or if you need the space just use an LM7805
