The amplifier is for audio, audio is AC, AC is measured in RMS(Root Mean Square), meaning that this amplifier is actually 8 Watts not 12 Watts. 12 Watts is the peak while 8 Watts is RMS. Let me give you an example of RMS. US Mains Voltage is rated at 120VAC, Its actually 170 VAC Peak but it is said as 120VAC

@sshsslfun, 6Watt, you cant correct a power with 1.414 cuz its two times 1.414, one for voltage and one for current. So you have to take half of the peak power to get (rms) power.
