Can’t view the book you link to unless I buy it. First question, have you copied the circuit correctly? The 47k is shorted out as it is grounded both sides.

Also, in EC do a search for passive tone control. There are a few there that may be of interest.

This is a copy of the one from the book. It uses a rotary switch. Original it was 6 position, the switch I found has 12, so I wanted to build upon this existing circuit.
