What's the simplest number of components to build one?

When the cap is charged, say 8v, it dumps its high energy load through say a 10watt LED as a bright flash.

The cap begins charging... (no 555 please)

Firs why no 55 they are great second u could just use a op amp frequnecy gen easy and u can adjust duty and freq.

To see if there is... my first thought was a zener switching on a transistor to dump the cap to ground...
