A simple Zener/NPN Deep Discharge Protection to kill the line when the battery goes below 8V. From 9->8V the current goes from almost full (11,4mA in this example) to below 1uA, and shuts down completely soon thereafter.

Why all those diodes when you need a potentiometer anyway? And I guess you mean "below 9V" as half current is at 8.7V.

The diodes were for creating a curve that has a sharp bend within a certain voltage. I have replaced them by a zener now.

Okay, I guess I learned my lesson. Circuits like these make no sense, unless there is either hysteresis or monoflop deep discharge circle is used, meant to be reset by user.
