I tried building a Wien Bridge oscillator. This is as close as I can get to a clean sine wave. Shake to start. Adjust the pot to control the gain of the op-amp

Hi. You aren't doing anything wrong. This is normal behavior for a Wien Bridge Oscillator that has no gain control.

Ohh, I see. Thanks for your feedback!

Say, that's pretty clever to use a potentiometer to manually control the gain! I've never seen that before, but that's an interesting idea.

Typically, in a circuit like this, automatic gain control is used. The gain starts off higher so the signal can get started, and then it is reduced so the signal won't get too high and clip on the supply rails. This is where these kinds of circuits can get pretty complicated, but a simple way is to use diodes in the gain feedback loop. Consider checking out this circuit. I hope it's helpful. Good luck! https://everycircuit.com/circuit/5340003970318336
