Why don't you just connect the switch directly to the lamp??

I was trying to understand the different output modes of the 555 timer (bistable, astable, monostable) and used the lamp as visual feedback to see if its working or not. But you are right if I only want to turn the light on and off connecting the switch directly would do the job. thx.
