Wonder how does the single diode part with capacitor in parallel functions?

Please note, that the amplitude of mains voltage is not 230V. 230V is the RMS voltage, which means the outlet can deliver as much power as 230V DC. The acutal amplitude is 230V times sqrt (2) which is around 325V.

Correction. 230V RMS doesn't mean that it can deliver as much power as 230V DC, misleading. 230V RMS is the DC equivalent voltage of the AC source or the virtual value of steady state voltage that can deliver the same amount of power as the AC source to the same *resistive* load

I try to explain things simple to people with less knowledge on the subject than me.

Right, but info should be accurate, not shady. My explanation is simple enough.

230VAC or 230VDC applied to a resistor of constant resistance, generate the same heat! Can it be easier to understand?

Indeed I always thought what hurz said holds truth?
