pnp on left npn on right
the pnp when presented with ground allows flow
the npn when presented with positive allows flow
with both led off power is being used to stop the led on the left (pnp side) thus i have a main switch next to the battery

Just unfair, or wrong comparision. Cause both transistor types do have the same abilities, but your test is not symetric. Looks like you do not fully understand the difference of NPN and PNP?
